Abstract
1346894 Needling apparatus WOOL INDUSTRIES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 19 April 1971 [8 Jan 1970] 951/70 Heading D1R A fibrous lap or batt is needled repeatedly and at least partially by moving it to and from a stationary needle bed. The needling apparatus may comprise needles 16, 17 and barrier plates 10, 11 between which the lap or batt is advanced by endless belts 30, 31. Plates 10, 11 may be reciprocated by electromagnets 40-43. or by pneumatic, hydraulic or lever and cam means. Flexible sheets 22, 23, 26, 27 facilitate the passage of the lap or batt. The needles 16 may be directly opposite, or offset from, needles 17. The needles may extend at an angle to the lap or batt. The plates may be moved non-linearly, possibly in a direction not normal to the direction of lap or batt progression, and may be moved at the inlet of the needling zone than at the outlet. The lap or batt may be progressed continuously, at a constant or varying speed, or intermittently with pauses while the needles penetrate the lap or batt. The lap or batt may be so needled while vertical.
