Abstract

1342907 Winding longitudinally slit strip B D PLANTARD 19 April 1971 [12 Feb 1970] 21367/71 Heading B3E In a sheet slitting mill comprising a tension device 6 for braking simultaneously and without any friction a plurality of strips delivered to a common coiling drum 4 and wherein the necessary braking effort is transmitted to endless belts, the tension device comprises braking means permitting different speeds of said belts, which speeds are respectively equal to those of the corresponding slit strips to be braked. The slitting installature comprises a coil of metal sheet 1, a deflector roll 2, a multiplecutter shearing device 3, a separator 5 and the drum 4. The strips 2b, Fig. 2, pass through a set of clamping belts 2c and are then deflected by a roll 2d before being coiled in the drum 4. The belts pass over separately brakable pulleys 2e and are pressed against the strips by a row of rollers 2f against which presses an inflatable elastic bladder 2h. The belts are guided laterally by rollers 2i. The pulleys are arranged in staggered relationship so that braking means (3a) Fig 3 (not shown) actuated by an expansible toroidal bladder (3f) can be interposed between each pair of pulleys. In a modification, Fig. 8, the belts are braked by hollow clamping plates 13 through which passes a cooling fluid the plates be - ing actuated by inflatable bladders 16. Composite belts, e.g. polyurethane with a thin adhering layer of stainless steel are used in this modification. The tension device can be located in any desired position in the installation (Figs. 5, 6 and 7, not shown).
