Abstract

1342370 Respiratory measurements SIEMENS AG 8 Jan 1971 [9 Jan 1970] 1114/71 Heading A5K Apparatus for monitoring the respiration of a subject to determine respiration flow, comprises a mouthpiece 3 having a fixed flow resistance to air flow therethrough, and a differential pressure manometer 11 having a nosebung input 10 for insertion into the subject's nasal passages and an input 12 open to the atmosphere. The mouthpiece is of resilient material and the fixed flow resistance is a screen or grid 5 formed integrally with the mouthpiece or snapped into a rigid ring in the mouthpiece. A sealing rim 6 of elliptical form is provided on the mouthpiece for location between the lips and teeth of the subject. The rim 6 is provided with projections (13), Fig. 2 (not shown), for biting on to retain the mouthpiece in the mouth.
