Abstract

1342011 Reciprocating pumps; compressing gases HARRY KRUGER GmbH 15 April 1971 [25 April 1970] 9452/71 Headings F1A and F1N A reciprocating pump or compressor comprises a fixed, stepped, piston 15, 17, defining with a reciprocating cylinder 29 a variable volume pumping space 36, the cylinder 29 having a flange 30 fitting closely within an outer casing 11-13, the cylinder 29 and flange 30 forming a motor piston reciprocated by pressure air supplied and exhausted via pipes 37, 38. Fluid is fed to space 36 via a bore 25 in piston portion 15, a spring-loaded ball valve 21 and passages 26, and is delivered via a second ball valve 23 and a bore 27 in piston portion 17. In order to obtain delivery on both strokes, the stepped piston 15, 17 may be provided with a central flange (17c), thus forming a space (40) around the piston portion 17 communicating with the outlet bore 27 via passages (41) Fig.2 (not shown). On the delivery stroke, fluid in space 36 is partly discharged the balance filling the space (40), the fluid in the space (40) being discharged during the suction stroke. In another arrangement, the cylinder 29 is reciprocable on two parallel stepped pistons of different dimensions, Fig.3 (not shown) to give two pumps which may act in series.
