Abstract
1342072 Razor blades WILKINSON SWORD Ltd 19 April 1971 [17 April 1970] 9770/71 Heading C7F [Also in Division B4] A razor blade has on its cutting edge an upper coating of chromium nitride superposed on a lower layer of chromium. The chromium coating may be applied using an ion-plasma sputtering technique in an atmosphere of argon or helium, and the upper coating applied using an atmosphere containing nitrogen. After formation of the lower coating a quantity of air may be admitted to the apparatus to oxidize the surface of the chromium layer before application of the upper coating. A coating of a polymer e.g. polytetrafluoroethylene or a co-polymer of thio-carbonyl fluoride and polytetrafluoroethylene, may be provided on the upper coating. The coatings may be produced by vapour deposition or reactive evaporation instead of by sputtering. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1193067.
