1341956 Punching pliers for key-cutting KAR PRODUCTS Inc 4 Dec 1972 55857/72 Heading B4W A hand operated key cutter comprises a first handle 12 terminating in a housing 13, a cutter assembly including a punch 14 and die 15 removably supported in said housing, a second handle 20 pivoted to the first handle in operative engagement with the punch, a stylus 16, means 17, 18, 19 for mounting the stylus at adjustable spacing from the cutter assembly, a guide rod 22 extending transversely through the first handle, a key carriage 11 in the form of a yoke mounted on the guide rod 22 for rocking and transverse sliding movement thereon, locking jaws 30, 31 on the key carriage for holding a key blank adjacent the cutter assembly and a master key adjacent the stylus, and spring means 23 for biasing the carriage so that the master key engages the stylus. In operation the key carriage is moved transversely on the rod 22 till the stylus engages the first indentation in the master key whereupon operation of the cutter assembly by the hand lever 20 cuts out a corresponding notch in the blank; the operation is repeated for each successive indentation. The cutter assembly is held in place by a screw 37 and is thus easily replaceable. To facilitate replacement of the cutter assembly a hook member 24 holds the key carriage in its rocked position furthest away from the stylus and cutter assembly. The stylus itself may be indexed 180 degrees to present a different surface to the master key and is readily replaceable.
