Abstract
1,144,848. Punching. HOUDAILLE INDUSTRIES Inc. 19 Sept., 1967 [24 Oct., 1966], No. 42665/67. Heading B3W. A punching machine comprises a C-frame with a die 14 secured to the lower arm and a tool holder 16 releasably secured to the upper arm 12 so that the holder can be removed on a carriage slidable along the upper arm to change the tool. A punch 17 is slidably mounted in the holder and reciprocated by a ram 15. The carriage comprises a pair of rails 35, 37 connected by at least one cross-bar 39 with grooves 45 which engage rollers 36 on the upper arm. The holder 16 has a pair of vertical rods 19, 20 which are clamped to the upper arm by levers 21, 23 when the holder is under the ram. To remove the holders the rails are moved from within the arm to engage under flanges 42 on the holder. The levers 21, 23 are pivoted to release the rods and the rails moved away from the ram. A clamp 49 is used to clamp the holders to the rails. Stops are provided on the rails to position the holder at the end of the work-table (24), Fig. 1 (not shown), where it is replaced. The work is supported in a holder 29 at one side of the worktable and the holder can be moved to any position relative to the ram on rails 26-28.
