Abstract

1340781 Measuring devices PRIMUS MFG Inc 13 Jan 1971 [9 Feb 1970 27 Aug 1970] 1564/71 Heading B3B A mounting mechanism for a friction wheel type measuring device 1 in which the wheel 6 is drivingly engaged to indicator dials 8 and 9 comprises a first part 12 having guide means on which to mount the measuring device, a second part 13 adaptably secured to a support for attachment to a lathe carriage 2, the parts 12 and 13 being displaceable relative to each other in a substantial parallel movement in a direction substantially normal to the surface to be measured. The parts 12 and 13 between them form a cavity 24 in which is diagonally located a flat steel spring 23 the opposite ends of which engage and locate in diagonally opposed corners of the cavity, the parts being retained in an equilibrium position by spring plates 21 which interconnect the parts. The part 12 is provided with a dovetail slot in which the measuring device is adjustably secured and a yoke member 26 secured to the part 12 and engageable by a screw 25 with the body 5 of the measuring device effects displacement between the parts 12 and 13 by deflection of the side springs 21 and controlled buckling of the spring 23 which acts as a simple column. The buckling of the spring 23 permits an accurate control of the pressure between the friction wheel 6 and the measuring surface 7 with which it is in contact, the deflection of the buckled spring being visually indicated in relation to the cavity 24. The attitude of the apparatus to the measuring surface may be adjusted by screws 19 in a support assembly 16, 18 attached to the lathe carriage 2.
