Abstract

1,239,891. Colour television tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 14 Jan., 1970 [16 Jan., 1969], N. 1871/70. Heading H1D. A colour television tube provided with a colour selection electrode 4 such as a shadow mask or a colour switching grid, to the edge of which is secured a ferromagnetic screening cone 6, is characterized in that a screening ring 11 is attached to an intermediate part of the cone 6 to intercept stray electrons following paths such as are shown at B and C and which would otherwise reach the luminescent screen. The upper half of Fig. 2 shows one embodiment wherein the cross-section of the cone 6 is straight; in the embodiment shown in the lower half of Fig. 2 the cone 9 is curved inwards, and a further intercepting flange 10 is provided at the junction of the cone with the electrode 4. A gelter holder 12 is disposed opposite an aperture in the cone 9 to which it is attached by a resilient strip which also forms an electrical connection between the cone and a wall coating (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the cone is formed in two parts, that attached to the shadow mask being integral with the intercepting flange and the other part being secured to the main part after the manufacture of the luminescent screen.
