Abstract

1,238,370. Uncoupling and disposing of gasfilters. DELBAG-LUFTFILTER G.m.b.H. 24 Dec., 1968 [3 May, 1968], No. 61227/68. Heading BIT. A filter 1 (e.g. for radioactive gases), adapted to be coupled at 6, 7 to inlet and outlet conduits 4, 5, is provided with flexible protective sheaths 11 retained by means 12, and further means 13 for retaining further sheaths 17 (Fig. 1g) surrounding sheaths 11. As described, to dispose of filter 1 without contaminating personnel, clamps 8 coupling the flanges 6, 7 are unfastened and element 1 is slid to the right on frame 15 (Fig. 1c, not shown). The middle of each sheath 11 is then welded off and severed, whereby filter 1 is isolated and can be removed (Fig. 1e, not shown). New sheaths 17 are now inserted in retaining grooves 13 and connected to a fresh filter 1, and enclose the remaining parts of sheaths 11, see Fig. 1g. These remaining parts can now safely be detached from conduits 4, 5, each falling into its sheath 11 (Fig. 1i, not shown), and the fresh filter 1 coupled at 6, 7 to conduits 4, 5. Filter 1 may comprise two pleated sheet elements in series (Figs. 4, 5, not shown) and as illustrated it has pegs 14 sliding in a framework 15. Alternatively (see Fig. 10) a filter 23 may couple with conduits of a duct 41, being forced into resilient sealing engagement therewith by screw clamps 34, and supported by pegs 33 riding in channels 22.
