Abstract
1,236,934. Liquid flow heater. GARDOM & LOCK Ltd. 23 July, 1968 [4 Aug., 1967], No. 61009/70. Divided out of 1,236,933. Heading H5H. In an electric water flow heater comprising a block of insulation 10 with a passageway 13, 14 ... 28 containing one or more resistive heating elements 33, 34 controlled by a switch (not shown) actuated by pressure-responsive means connected to different parts of the flow passage so that, in use, the pressures in said parts act in opposition on the actuating means so that it will not respond to static pressure variations but will respond to a pressure differential between said parts, an automatic non-return valve 46 is provided in series with said passage to prevent reverse flow through the heater. The valve 46 comprises a cylindrical chamber 47 formed in body 10 into which extends a flanged plastics case 48. A rubber or plastics plunger 50 having an enlarged raised annular rim 51 slides in the case 48. An "O" ring 49a between the flange of case 48 and a shoulder of block 10 seals the chamber. Under static conditions, the plunger 50 overlies outlet port 14 in the side of chamber 47. Under forward flow the plunger 50 is urged into case 48 to expose the outlet port 14, and under reverse pressure the plunger 50 is forced downwards to close inlet bore 13. The flow heater is identical with that described in the Parent Specification.
