Abstract

1,236,995. Stencililng apparatus. WILLIAM CLARK & SONS Ltd. 23 July, 1969 [1 Aug., 1968], No. 36753/68. Heading B6C. [Also in Divisions B2 and D1] A flexible web 17 is coated with discrete masses of a thermoplastic adhesive by feeding a freeflowing thermoplastic synthetic resin powder to a hopper 11 contained entirely within a rotating perforated cylindrical screen 10, vibrating the hopper and causing the resin to pass through the perforations in the screen under the action of a doctor-blade 11a on to the web passed between the screen and a support roller 18 and thereafter applying heat, with or without pressure, to cause the heaps of powder to fuse and adhere to the web. Both sides of the web may be coated. The gap 13 of the hopper may be adjustable via a movable plate 12. The powder supply to the hopper may also he vibrated either independently of or together with the hopper. In examples, cotton cloth is coated with polyethylene or a plasticized phenolic resin. The products are useful as fusible interlinings.
