Abstract

1,236,728. Laminated corrugated paperboard. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 9 March, 1970 [7 March, 1969], No. 11148/70. Heading B5N. [Also in Division C5] Corrugated paperboard is made by adhesively securing a first liner to a corrugated medium, spraying a petroleum wax blend on to the exposed medium crests, applying a second liner to said crests, heating, e.g. between plates at 140- 200‹ C., to consolidate the assembly and ensure impregnation by the wax, cooling if desired, and cutting. The liners may also be treated with the wax blend before assembly, and the said exposed medium crests may be further treated with adhesive before waxing. The wax blend preferably comprises a mixture of macrocrystalline waxes and microwax, and may include minor amounts of polyethylene, petroleum resin and antioxidant; it may be applied molten at 70-150‹ C. by direct spraying or air atomization. The process can be used in conjunction with a corrugating machine.
