Abstract

1,129,733. Woodworking. STIFTELSEN WALLBOARDINDUSTRIENS FORSKNINGSINSTITUT. 29 March, 1967 [30 March, 1966], No. 14248/67. Heading B5L. [Also in Division D2] A method of treating lignocellulosic boards in order to increase the density and surface smoothness of the surface layer of the board comprises contacting the surface of the board with a highly polished heating surface having a surface temperature in the range 300‹ C. to 500‹ C., at a pressure not exceeding 15 kg/cm.<SP>2</SP> for a period not exceeding 15 seconds. The board may be cardboard, carton board, particle board, insulating board, semi-hard board and hardboard and asphalted board. Preferably the temperature is between 350‹ C. to 450‹ C. and the period does not exceed 10 seconds and the pressure 3 kg/cm.<SP>2</SP>. After 2 to 5 seconds, the pressure may be reduced to 0À2 to 1 kg/cm.<SP>2</SP>. Both surfaces of the material may be treated. The pressure may be applied intermittently.
