Abstract
1,231,983. Cutting apparatus. SCRIPTA S.A. 4 Feb., 1970 [6 Feb., 1969], No. 5336/70. Heading B4B. Apparatus for cutting out pieces of sheet material, e.g. of cloth or plastics, comprises a first cutting device 4 connected by a linkage, e.g. a pantograph 2, to a follower member 3 adapted to follow a shape reproduced by the cutting device 4, and a second cutting device 5 controlled by the linkage 2 such that the second cutting device describes a shape which is similar to the shape described by first cutting device but on a reduced scale. The pantograph comprises links 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24, the links 16, 17 being pivoted together about a pivot point 19 carried by a worktable 1. The cutting device 4 comprises a cutter 59 rotatable by means of an air motor 41 mounted, via a clamp 53, on the ram 54 of an air jack 42 so that upon actuation of the latter the motor is raised or lowered within a sleeve 46 mounted in a holder 47 secured to the link 24. A presser foot 58 is adapted to bear on the material during cutting the exhaust air from the motor being trapped by the foot, thereby facilitating movement of the cutter over the material. The construction of the cutting device 5 is identical to the latter construction.
