Abstract

1,231,414. Magnetic switches. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. 30 Aug., 1968 [14 Sept., 1967], No. 41661/68. Heading H1N. A holding magnet for operation of a circuit breaker release mechanism has its armature 5 normally retained by flux from a permanent magnet 1 acting through two magnetic members 2, 3 across which the armature 5 extends. The members 2, 3 are separated by a thin non- magnetic member of considerable relative crosssectional area forming a shunt air gap and the position of the permanent magnet 1 across a gap 7 between members 2, 3 is adjustable, by a screw 29 against the bias of a spring 28. This adjustment sets the holding flux which is opposed to release of the armature 5 when a coil 2 is energized. The armature 5 is supported on a lever 8 pivoted in a V-shaped recess in the member 3 and biased, to move the armature away from the members 2, 3, by a spring 17.
