1,230,477. Winch dyeing. LEEMETALS Ltd. 17 Nov., 1969 [20 Nov., 1968; 30 May, 1969], Nos. 55012/68 and 27395/69. Heading D1L. In a winch dyeing process, tubular or open width fabric is passed in folded sinuous form together with dye liquor through a restricted arcuate passageway C, the liquor outlet level being maintained lower than the liquor inlet level and the level at which the fabric is unfolded. The liquor passes through perforations c<SP>1</SP> and c<SP>2</SP> in the passageway and (by means of a pump) through ports v<SP>1</SP> and/or v<SP>2</SP> to spray means at the inlet side of the passage. The liquor may be heated by a heat exchanger before or after passing through port v<SP>1</SP>. A single spray means (on the back of carpet material) or two spray means acting alternately may effect the folding. Wide low energy sprays may be used. As shown, tubular fabric is sprayed by alternate means B<SP>1</SP> and B<SP>2</SP> and means TS above the winch W, liquor passing into an inner space a<SP>1</SP> is heated by exchanger d, and the material is ballooned and simultaneously twisted before passage over the winch by valved inflating means AP and roller peg RP. In some circumstances, ballooning may be effected without inflating means. The liquor/ fabric ratio (in the case of carpet material) may be 20/1 or less.
