Abstract

[Also in Divisions C7 and F1] One or more workpieces contained in a basket 13 are cleaned in a chamber 10 by applying suction to the chamber through a pipe 35, to draw cleansing liquid in from a chamber 19 through a pipe 25, and direct it onto the workpieces through nozzles 28. The liquid is drawn in mixed with air or an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, which may be sucked in through openings 29 in the nozzles. The tank 19 may be associated with a tank 44 which separates off grease from the cleansing liquid. The workpieces may be agitated by reciprocating the basket 13. After washing, air heated at 33 can be drawn into the chamber 10 for drying the workpieces. Two cleansing liquids may be used by providing two tanks.
