Abstract
1,230,142. Hydrodesulphurization. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 14 June, 1968 [26 June, 1967], No. 28368/68. Heading C5E. A process for the hydrodesulphurization of a sulphur-containing petroleum oil containing residual components comprises contacting said oil with hydrogen at mild hydrodesulphurization conditions in the presence of a porous hydrodesulphurization catalyst comprising an oxide and/or sulphide of nickel and/or cobalt and an oxide and/or sulphide of molybdenum and/or tungsten deposited on a support material comprising 1 to 6 weight per cent silica and 94 to 99 weight per cent alumina, the catalyst having a major portion of the pore volume and surface area in pores having diameters in the range 30 to 70 . The feedstock may be pretreated to remove metals by HF treatment or by solvent precipitation with propane, butane, mixtures of propane and butane, pentane, hexane or naphtha.
