Abstract
1,229,887. Suspended roofing structures. GRANDI PADIGLIONI S.p.A. 19 June, 1968 [30 June, 1967], No. 29171/68. Heading E1W. A roofing structure comprises an outer rigid structure 11a supporting an outer ring structure 12a and an inner rigid structure 18 supporting an inner ring structure 16a substantially co-axial with the outer ring structure, a first system of cables 15a each of which extends as a chord between two points on the outer ring structure and a second system of cables 13a each of which extends from a point on the outer ring structure 12a to a point on the inner ring structure wherein one of the cable systems overlie the cables of the other system and serve as tensioning cables exerting a downwardly directed force on the cables of the other system, which latter serve a roofing supporting cables. In the embodiment of Fig. 6, for a circular building, the inner ring structure 16a is located above the level of the ring structure 12a, and it is the cables 13a which serve as roofing supporting cables, the cables 15a serving as tensioning cables. In an alternative form, for an annular building Figs. 1 to 4 (not shown), the inner ring structure is located below the level of the outer structure and the respective functions of the cable systems is likewise reversed.
