Abstract

1,228,592. Roofing material. PERMANITE Ltd. 3 Feb., 1969 [27 March, 1968], No. 14624/68. Heading B5N. [Also in Division B2] A roofing material comprises (i) a sheet or strip of paper-like absorbent felt made wholly or mainly either of animal and/or vegetable fibres or of asbestos fibres, said felt being impregnated with bitumen, coal tar pitch or asphalt and being covered on one face with a water impervious plastics material, e.g. P.V.C. or polythene, and (ii) a loosely coherent fibrous mat or fleece, e.g. glass or mineral fibres, adhesively bonded to a face of the felt/plastics composite. The plastics material may be applied as a preformed layer to the felt while the impregnating bituminous material is still hot or is bonded by waterproof adhesive applied to the felt. The mat or fleece, which is preferably more than ¢ inch thick is applied against either face of the composite and adhesion is effected by the application of lines of adhesion to that face. When the mat is applied to the plastic material, the surface of the felt is given a coating of bitumen and a talc finish is applied.
