Abstract

1,227,910. Reinforced plastics laminate. B. ROMANIN. 23 Dec., 1969 [30 Dec., 1968], No. 62543/69. Heading B5N. A method of manufacturing a reinforced laminated plastics structure comprises applying pressure to an assembly, comprising at least two sheets of thermoplastic material 10<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>11</SP> which have been previously and separately calendered and heated to a temperature which enables them to be pressure welded, each adjacent pair of sheets being separated by a reticular fabric 11, wherein the fabric is woven from filaments or yarns of a synthetic material having a melting point higher than that of the thermoplastic material, and wherein the fabric is heated to a temperature such that on the application of pressure to the assembly, the filaments or yarns of the fabric embed themselves in the inner surfaces of the sheets so that the inner surfaces come into mutual contact through the interstices of the fabric and weld themselves together. The thermoplastic sheets may be of plasticized polyvinyl chloride and the fabric may be of polyester or polyamide yarns, e.g. polyhexamethylene adipamide.
