Abstract

1,226,131. Making fuel oils. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 13 Dec., 1968 [11 Jan., 1968], No. 1655/68. Heading C5E. A fuel oil is made by distilling an atmospheric residue which contains at least 5 wt. per cent wax and has an I.B.P. in the range 300‹ to 370‹ C., under vacuum to give a wax distillate having an I.B.P. in the range 300‹ to 370‹ C., and an F.B.P. in the range 500‹ to 600‹ C. and a residue, selectively dewaxing the distillate to reduce the wax content by at least 4 wt. per cent, and blending at least a portion of the dewaxed distillate with at least a portion of the vacuum residue. Dewaxing may be by solvent extraction or by urea adduction, but is preferably done using a mordenite catalyst, e.g. as described in Specifications 1,088,933 and 1,134,014. The fuel oil may be blended with untreated atmospheric or vacuum residues, or with a gas oil.
