Abstract
1,225,883. Feeding sheets. BURROUGHS CORP. 9 Oct., 1969 [14 Oct., 1968], No. 49657/69. Heading B8R. A sheet feeding device comprises a hopper 14 having an adjustable throat 68 defined by a movably mounted restricting member 18 which co-operates with the periphery of a feed roller 16, a rotatable cam 50 being operatively connected with the restricting member 18 so that the latter can be adjusted in predetermined increments, and the cam 50 having lands spaced about its periphery at different radial distances from the axis of rotation of the cam corresponding to different thicknesses of sheets. The restricting member 18 is described in detail with reference to Figs. 2 to 6 (not shown). In operation, the restricting member 18 is adjusted relative to the feed roller 16 so that only the lowermost document 66 of a pile 64 in the hopper 14 can pass through the throat 68. Thus, upon rotation of the roller 16, the lowermost document 66 is fed from the hopper, is deflected by a curved plate 70 and is driven away by further rollers 28, 29. A single document 72 may be fed directly by inserting it along the upper surface of a plate 32 leading to the rollers 28, 29.
