Abstract
1,225,868. Clamps. SMITH-BLAIR Inc. 24 July, 1968, No. 35406/68. Heading E2B. [Also in Division F2] A leak-repair clamp for spigot-and-socket pipe joints consists of a pair of rings 22, 26 for applying the pressure of bolts 30 to a gasket 36, each ring comprising a pair of identical mutually interlocking semi-circular sectors, Figs. 2 and 3, respectively. The bell-ring member 22 is of two like parts 40 each having interfitting male connector 42 at one end and a female connector 44 at the other end. The male and female ends overlap in use. The female part, Fig. 8, has a bolt-receiving hole 66 and an aligning wedge 60 and a slot 68 which interengage respectively with a ramp 82 and a lug 76 on the male member. There are other bolt holes distributed round the rings. A bendable tab 91 on the male member serves to hold the two members together before bolting. The parts of the spigot ring member 26 are very similar to those of the bell-ring, except that it is shaped to hold the packing 36, and that both male and female ends have boltholes which are aligned by a stud 122 engaging a socket 136, Figs. 22, 22. Bendable tabs 146 provide temporary fixture.
