Abstract

1,223,242. Tyre building apparatus. CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE A.G. 12 Sept., 1969 [25 Nov., 1968], No. 45210/69. Heading B7C. An apparatus for placing annular bands 9 of rubberized textile or wire cord fabric on a tyre building drum 1 comprises an auxiliary drum 4 having a frusto-conical radially outer surface inclined at an angle of up to 5 degrees to its shaft 6 and diverging in the direction towards the drum 1, the shaft 6 being rotatable with the shaft 2 of the drum 1 to cause a band 9 on the auxiliary drum 4 to "creep" on to the drum 1. The drum 4 comprises bars 5 connected to the shaft 6 by means of spokes, and may be frustoconical over only part of its length. The shaft 6 is mounted on an axially movable carriage 7, and is thereby disconnectable at 8 from the shaft 2 to permit the placing of a band 9 over the drum 4.
