Abstract

1,112,387. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 14 Sept., 1965 [25 Sept., 1964], No. 39077/64. Heading B7C. In a pneumatic tyre and wheel assembly each tyre bead region has an outer surface 11 seatihg on and parallel with a rim bead-seating surface 17 extending at an angle between 25 degrees and 45 degrees to the wheel axis and a carcass ply 10 has in each bead region a portion lying parallel to the surface 11, the toe 13 being wholly or substantially unsupported by the rim under static load. Each bead region includes one or two frusto-conical bead rings 16, and the ply 10 may terminate in the toe as shown in Fig. 2, or be wrapped in either direction about a bead ring. Co-operating annular ribs and/or recesses such as 20, 21 may be formed on the bead and/or surface 17 to locate the bead co-axially on the rim (see also Figs. 1, 3, 5 not shown). There may be one carcass ply 10 of steel cords extending radially of the tyre or two bias-laid plies, and the tyre may have a triangulated breaker.
