Abstract

1,222,761. One-piece biased hinge. LENOXWERK EMIL LIEBKE & CO. 29 April, 1969 [30 April, 1968], No. 21717/69. Heading E2F. [Also in Division F2] A one-piece plastics hinge moveable about a first axis between closed and open positions comprises two hinge plates 1, 2 interconnected by a web in which lies the first axis, the web being separated by one or more slits 7, 8 into at least two hinge strips 3 (or 4) and 9, one 3 (or 4) of these strips being grooved 5 (or 6) at the position of the first axis, the other 9, of the hinge strips, which functions as a tension spring to bias the hinge into its closed and open positions, being a spring portion displaceable about two second axes 12, 13 parallel to but offset from the first axis, the spring portion having at least one section 10, 11 which is extensible longitudinally as the hinge plates 1 2 are swung from their closed to their open position and which has an undulating form in both the closed and the open positions. The strip 9 may have a relatively inflexible central portion 9 and two flexible U- shaped portions 10, 11 or may have the overall shape of a capital letter omega (Fig. 5, not shown). The latter hinge is suitable for use in a one-piece spring opening and/or closing injection moulded container, the hinge plates (15 and 16) extending to form the lid and side wall respectively.
