Abstract

1,261,056. Flexible hinges. NEWTON & TAYLOR (PTY) Ltd. 15 Aug., 1969 [20 Aug., 1968], No. 40841/69. Heading E2F. A flexible hinge unit 4 connecting members 2 and 3 comprises a pair of tongues 5 connected by an integral web 6, each tongue 5 having a dove-tailed configuration in both front view and cross-section which releasably engages a complementary groove (7) formed in a raised portion 8 of member 2 or 3. Additional retaining means may be provided in the form of a pair of retaining wings 11 projecting sideways from the outer end of each tongue 5 (as shown), and/or a transversely projecting retaining flange (10) on the outer end of each tongue 5 engaging a shoulder (9) on the portion 8 (Fig. 7, not shown). The members 2 and 3 may respectively comprise the tray and lid of a container.
