Abstract
1,222,462. Isocyanates. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 21 July, 1969 [25 July, 1968], No. 36589/69. Heading C2C. Primary amines or their salts are phosgenated in an inert solvent to the corresponding isocyanate in the presence of a compound containing at least 4 ethylene oxide groups. In the " cold-hot " phosgenation technique the ethylene oxide compound may be added to the reaction prior to either of the two stages. Phenyl isocyanate, 3-trifluoro methyl phenyl isocyanate, 3 - nitrophenyl isocyanate, 4 - chloro - 41 - isocyanato-diphenyl ether, toluylene diisocyanate, 4 - chlorophenyl isocyanate and 3,4 - dichlorophenyl isocyanate are thus prepared, the preferred catalyst being nonyl phenol polyethylene oxide.
