Abstract
1,222,060. Treating tobacco. AMERICAN CHEMOSOL CORP. 14 April, 1969, No. 19015/69. Heading A2C. Tobacco is treated with a mixture comprising citric acid and added deuterium oxide to reduce the benzo (α) pyrene content of smoke resulting from the pyrolysis thereof. Preferably the tobacco is sprayed with an aqueous solution having a pH of between 4 and 6, and containing 10-100% by weight of added deauterium oxide related to the weight of citric acid, in an amount such that the treated tobacco contains from 1 to 100mg of citric acid per 5Kg of tobacco.
