Abstract
1,221,616. Modified polyamides and proteins. FERRO CORP. 14 May, 1969 [1 Oct., 1968], No. 24590/69. Headings C3H and C3R. [Also in Divisions C2 and D1] The properties of proteins and nylons are modified by forming a complex of the protein or nylon with a 3,5-disubstituted γ-resorcylic acid derivative of the formula in which R and R<SP>1</SP>, which may be the same or different, each denotes a straight-chain alkyl group of 1-20 carbon atoms, a branched-chain alkyl group of up to 4 carbon atoms, an aromatic radical of 6-20 carbon atoms or an aralkyl radical of 7-20 carbon atoms, and Z denotes hydrogen or an alkali metal. The complexes may be made by heating the components in water or an organic solvent. Examples are given of the treatment of egg albumin, casein and gelatine, Specified other proteins which may be treated include enzymes and wool.
