Abstract

1,221,148. Shellfish trap. FATHOMS PLUS Inc. 11 April, 1969, No. 18767/69. Heading A1A. A demountably constructed plastics shellfish trap of elliptical plan form has a pair of substantially opposed openings adjacent the minor axis of the elliptical plan form. Two identical unts 10, 10A, each having a frusto-conical insert 24 with a plurality of fingers 30 pressed into the opening in its side wall, are attached by hinges 42 and catches 44 to form the trap frame. Adjacent the inner end of each insert 24 is a bait holder 32 comprising a cage-like cylindrical structure vertically mounted in the frame unit, a lug 38 on each end of the bait holder engaging a key-hole slot 36 in web plates 34 carried by the corresponding top and bottom members of the frame unit. To facilitate loading, the bait holder is divided longitudinally, the parts being held together by retainers in tho form of hinges and catches or clips. In an alternative embodiment the side walls of the frame units are inclined to provide stability on a flat surface.
