Abstract

1,218,412. Machinery safety devices. RADIOVISOR PARENT Ltd. 18 April, 1969 [24 April, 1968], No. 19277/68. Heading F2J. [Also in Division G1] For testing the electronic circuit of a light guard for a press, wherein a set of spaced apart electric lamps (not shown) shines on a corresponding number of series-connected photo-cells P1-P12 controlling a relay Rel, interruption of the guard de-energizing the relay to cause stopping of the press, diodes D1-D12 are connected to the anodes of respective photo-cells P1-P12 and the photo-cells and diodes are connected in circuit with changeover contacts Re2/3 and Re2/reeds of a relay Re2 so that when the relay Re2 is energized the photo-cells are connected in parallel, via the diodes, allowing a fault in any one to be detected. The output of the photo-cells controls the relay Re1 via an amplifier including transistors TR1-TR3. Initially all five relays Re1-Re5 in the control system are de-energized, and the guard lamps are dimmed. To prepare the system for operation, a reset button A is pressed to energize the relay Re2 to parallel the photo-cells. If there is no fault, relay Re1 is not energized, allowing relay Re4 to latch in. Pressing the " machine start " switch energizes relay Re3, bringing the guard lamps to full brilliance so that relay Re1 is energized and the press starting circuit is completed via terminal 16, contacts Re4/3, Re3/3, Re1/2, Re5/2, terminal 9, and contact S2. Near the end of the press cycle, a cam (not shown) closes a TEST switch 19, 20, 21 to energize relay Re2 for a period determined by the time constant of a capacitor C2 and a potentiometer P2<SP>1</SP>. Relay Re3 is de-energized via transistors TR5, TR6 to dim the lamps and open the press circuit. The photo-cells are paralleled. A fault would keep relay Re1 energized, breaking the holding circuit of relay Re4 to prevent further press operation. With the press standing idle, a fault, e.g. sun shining into the photo-cells, would energize relay Re1 to prevent energization of relay Re3 by the atart switch. A relay Re5 is operable by a key switch to by-pass the safety circuits, so that the press may be operated for tool setting.
