Abstract
1,217,240. Colour television tubes. SONY CORP. 3 April, 1968 [6 April, 1967 (2); 19 July, 1967], No. 16119/68. Heading H1D. In a colour television tube wherein an electron gun A 1 produces a plurality of electron beams which pass through the optical centre of a focusing means G3-G5 with one of the beams B G passing along the axis and the others diverging, two successive deflecting means are provided to allow the first beam to pass through them undeflected and the other beams to converge at a common spot. In Fig. 3, the first deflecting means comprises the plates P in combination with the plates Q 1 and causes the outer beams B B and B R to diverge; the second deflecting means comprises the plates Q 2 in combination with the plates H and converges the three beams at the grid G P . As shown the plates P and H are connected to a voltage source VS which provides static convergence and may be energized so as to provide dynamic convergence also. The deflecting plates may be parallel to the axis with the plates H supported through insulation from the plates P (Fig. 5, not shown). If both deflections are convergent the plates H may be omitted and the pairs of plates Q1 and Q2 are connected to individual voltage supplies (Fig. 8, not shown). Magnetic deflection may be used, as shown in Fig. 7, wherein the inner beam passes through a magnetic shield 31 and the outer beams pass between polepieces 33 energized by external electromagnets 35.
