[Also in Divisions A4 and B8] A collapsible article, e.g. stool or table, model furniture, a carton, Fig. 1, comprises a top 13, a tubular strut 11 and a base 12 of doublefaced or double-walled corrugated fibre board. Parts 12, 13 are each formed from a blank, Fig. 2A, comprising a hexagonal base 14, six walls 15 hinged thereto and slotted at 16, and triangular support flaps 17 hinged to opposed sides walls 15. Flaps 17 are folded through 90‹ and walls 15 folded inwardly till flaps 17 contact base 14, forming a truncated pyramid (Fig. 2B). Strut 11 is folded from a six-punched blank (Fig. 3 A) and is inserted into the slots 16 in part 12 or 13, Fig. 3B, adjacent flaps 17 co-operating with slots 21 in strut 11, the end of strut 11 abutting base 14. Strengthening shaped inserts (22, 23, Fig. 4B) may be provided. The blanks forming parts 11, 12, 13 may be waxed or decorated, and the top panel may be upholstered. In a second embodiment (Figs. 6-8), the top (41) is larger than the base (42), and the inserts (44, 45, 46) each have an enlarged end (e.g. 45a) that cooperates with the top (Fig. 7B). A third embodiment (Figs. 9-14) comprises a far-sided tubular divergent strut (61), a four-sided truncated pyramidal base (62), and a four-sided top (63) with perpendicular sides. Strut 61 is formed from an arcuate blank (Fig. 11 A) comprising four panels (67) which form the walls of the strut and two panels (68) slotted (at 70') which form diagonal strengthening ribs (see Figs. 11B and C). An insert (70, Figs. 12A and B) has slots (72) that co-operate with slots (70') to provide second diagonal ribs. The top (63) is formed from a blank (Fig. 13A) comprising a rectangular base (80) with hinged panels (81) and flaps (82), with panels (81) interconnected by gussets (83). It is folded (as shown in Figs. 13B-D) to provide the top (63). A fourth four-sided embodiment (Figs. 15-17) comprises a truncated pyramidal base (91), a divergent strut (92) without integral strengthening ribs, and a four sided top (93) with perpendicular sides. An insert (96) comprising a rectangular plate (97) and four depending skirts (98) provides storage space thereabove. A square section strut could have a hexagonal or octagonal base or top.
