Abstract

1,214,809. Diaphragm compressors. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. Feb.6, 1968 [Feb.8, 1967], No.5929/67. Heading F1N. [Also in Division F2] In a compressor having a compression chamber 3 variable by a diaphragm 6 movable by a connecting rod 8, the diaphragm is in the form of two rubber skins 10, 11 defining a space therebetween through which a coolant flows. The diaphragm 6 is clamped between a pair of castings 15, 16 defining an annular coolant chamber 17 having cooling fins 18. When the diaphragm performs a compression stroke the skins move together and coolant therebetween is forced into the chamber 17 through a valved opening 20 in a spacing ring 14 separating the edges of the diaphragm skins. On the induction stroke the skins move apart and a fresh charge of coolant is drawn from the chamber 17 through a valved opening 19. An apertured annular rib 13 separates the central portions of the skins.
