Abstract

1,212,116. Fragmentation shell. WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKONBUHRLE AG. 3 Dec., 1968 [25 Jan., 1968], No. 57435/68. Heading F3A. Fragmentation shell comprising a casing 4 and a foil-encased explosive charge 3, the foil having a number of elongated indentations 2 disposed in rows and extending in the longitudinal direction of the shell, the indentations of adjacent rows being staggered in relation to one another in the direction of the rows, the adjacent rows being separated by an uninterrupted area of foil. The indentations act as hollow charges and cause the casing to split into hexagonal fragments upon detonation of charge 3. The foil is formed of steel, copper or plastics material and the casing 4 is formed of steel.
