Abstract

1,211,149. Printing synthetic materials; brightening textiles. CIBA Ltd. 24 June, 1968 [23 June, 1967], No. 29963/68. Headings D1B and DIP. A process for the single-colour or multicolour printing of material made of or containing a synthetic product comprises printing with a solution of a resin containing a dissolved or dispersed dye which sublimes at 140-230‹C and/or an optical brightener which sublimes at 140-250‹C in an at least partially organic solvent and the printed area is then heated to sublimation temperature. In particular disperse dyes are used with ethylcellulose, nitrocellulose, acrylic resin and hydroxypropylcellulose as resins dissolved in ethanol, methylethylketone, glycol monoethylether, toluene and isopropanol as organic solvents. Heating to sublimation temperature may be effected by dry heating or steaming. The synthetic materials include polyesters, polyamides and polyacrylonitrile. Large lists of suitable resins (including rubbers) and of organic solvents are included in the specification and mixtures of natural and synthtetic fibres may be treated.
