Abstract

1,210,079. Shearing. MOELLER & NEUMANN G.m.b.H. 28 Dec., 1967 [4 Jan., 1967], No. 58958/67. Heading B3W. A flying shear comprises an upper blade support 3 carried by a frame 2 mounted on eccentrics 8a on a continuously rotating drive shaft 8 and a lower blade support 7 slidable in the frame 2 and connected to the shaft 8 by rods 21. Oscillating movement is imparted to the lower ends of the frame 2 from eccentrics (16) on a shaft (15) displaced laterally and vertically relative to the shaft 8 by arms 17. The upper eyes of the connecting rods 21 are pivotally connected to the lower blade holder 7 by bolts 22 and mis-cut eccentrics 20 located in the lower eyes are pivotable about the shaft 8 but are normally restrained from doing so by engagement of teeth 20a on the eccentrics with toothed wheels (19) carried by a shaft (23), Fig. 2 (not shown). The shaft (23) is rotatable through 180 degrees to move the eccentrics between their only two possible positions-upper dead centre cutting position and lower dead centre position shownby a rack and pinion arrangement (24), (25) actuated by a pneumatic cylinder 26. As shown, the mis-cut eccentrics are located between outer and inner shaft bearings 10, 11 respectively but the inner bearings 11 may be moved outwardly or omitted and the eccentrics combined into a sleeve provided with teeth directly or indirectly connected to a rack, the shaft (23) being omitted.
