Abstract
1,206,062. Deoxidation of steel. NIPPON KOKAN K.K. Oct.7, 1968 [Oct. 18, 1967], No.47354/68. Heading C7D. Molten steel is deoxidized by blowing Ca or Cacontaining material (e.g. alloy) suspended in a gas stream into the lower part of a molten steel bath after or during preliminary deoxidation of said bath. Preliminary deoxidation may be effected with Al, Si, Ti, Mg, Na or K. The amount of Ca added is suitably 0À05% of the weight of the steel. Suitable gases are N2 and Ar, and the additives may be blown into the melt through a refractorysurrounded tube which passes through the bath surface to the lower part of the bath. Deoxidation may be effected in a ladle, converter, mould, open hearth or electric furnace.
