Abstract
1,205,508. Woodworking. D. N. GUMBRELL. 20 Aug., 1968, No. 39844/68. Heading B5L. A device for edge rabbeting a timber for attachment thereto of a butt hinge comprises means 12, 17 for clamping the device on the timber, blade members 40, 41, 42 movably mounted on the clamp means and having three cutting edges 40<SP>1</SP>, 41<SP>1</SP>, 42<SP>1</SP> disposed so that they effect a cut along a plane normal to the opposite sides of the timber to form the floor of the rabbet and along two opposed planes normal to the opposite sides to form opposed lateral walls of the rabbet, and means 54 for moving the blade members. The device has a pair of rails 11 on which a front clamping member 12 is rigidly fixed by pins and a rear clamping member 13 is adjustably secured by thumb screws 15. The clamping member 13 receives a screw 16 carrying a clamping bar 17 which is engaged with one of the opposite sides of the timber 2, the other side engaging a surface 20 on the member 12. A blade carrier 50 is slidable along the rails 11 by a screw 53 and has a flange 51 formed with a recess for an integral block structure 40 having an edge 40<SP>1</SP> for cutting the floor of the rabbet and edges 41<SP>1</SP>, 42<SP>1</SP> for cutting the lateral walls of the rabbet, the edges 411, 42<SP>1</SP> being inclined forwardly of edge 40<SP>1</SP>. The rear lateral wall of the rabbet is cut by a blade 60 mounted on a carrier 62 pinned to the rails 11, the blade being impressed into the timber before the device is clamped thereon.
