Abstract
1,205,564. Blood sampling. HEMOLECTORS Ltd. 20 Dec., 1967 [21 Sept., 1966], No. 42155/66. Heading A5R. Apparatus for the biological extraction or collection of fluids, e.g. for blood sampling, comprises a disposable container of flexible resilient material having a body portion 1 able to be collapsed and expanded in concertina fashion, and an uncollapsible end portion 3 of at least substantially the same internal crosssectional area as the maximum internal crosssectional area of the body portion, there being a hollow adaptor 6 removably fitted to the end portion 3 and carrying a nipple 12 suitable to receive a hollow needle, and a closure member 13 for capping and/or plugging the nipple when the needle is not attached. The adaptor 6 may (as in the form shown) fit over the end portion 3, or alternatively, the adaptor is arranged to plug the end portion, and a portion (e.g. a half) of the body portion 1 may have a flat surface so that it may receive a label. The container may be supplied containing an anti-coagulant and may be used for taking a blood sample from a patient by inserting the needle into the patient and then by releasing the collapsed (Figure 2, not shown) body portion. The end portion 3 may be designed to fit an automatic blood mixer and analyser (not described), and locking formations may be provided on the base 2 of the body portion 1 and on the end portion 3 so that the container may be retained in its collapsed state. The container may be fitted to a holder which has a plunger device arranged for collapsing the container.
