Abstract
1,204,970. O-Acetyl-5-(4-fluorophenyl) salicylic acid. MERCK & CO. Inc. 12 Aug., 1968 [14 Aug., 1967], No. 38482/68. Heading C2C. O - Acetyl - 5 - (4 - fluorophenyl) salicylic acid is prepared by reacting 5-(4-fluorophenyl) salicylic acid with an agent capable of forming an acetyl radical which is reactive with phenolic hydroxyl groups or with a phenol derivative capable of providing the phenoxy radical. Preferred acetylating agents are acetic anhydride, acetyl chloride, acetyl bromide, acetic propionic anhydride; and isopropenyl acetate. Other agents have the formula CH 3 COX, where X is I, F, N 3 , phenoxy, 2,4-dinitrophenoxy, phenylmercapto, p-nitrophenylmercapto, imidazolyl, alkoxy, hydroxy, carbodiimidoxyl, α,#-unsaturated alkenoxy, aliphatic acyloxy, organophosphato, dialkyl arseno, sulphonoxy, cyanoalkoxy, N-methyl pyrroliniumoxy chloride and N,N-dimethyliminiumacetoxy chloride. The reaction may be effected in presence or absence of acidic or basic catalysts.
