Copolyesters are prepared by polycondensing iso- or terephthalic acids or their methyl or ethyl esters, alkylene glycols containing 2-4 carbon atoms, and a hydroxy acid or derivative of a hydroxy acid of formula where R represents a hydrogen atom, an acetyl or propionyl group or a #-hydroxyethyl or #-hydroxypropyl group and R<SP>1</SP> represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl or ethyl group.
