Abstract

1,204,013. Heat shrinking apparatus. ROLL O SHEETS Inc. 5 Sept., 1968 [5 Sept., 1968], No. 42196/68. Headings B8A and B8C. Apparatus for heat-shrinking a plastics film wrapped about an object consists of an endless conveyer having a belt 40 made of metal (e.g. stainless steel), and a heat tunnel 30 positioned over an intermediate portion of the belt top, the tunnel being provided with a hot-air blower 60. During operation, the film-wrapped object is manually placed on a loading station 46 with overlapping edges of the film facing the belt which edges are tacked together by the heat transmitted from a heat-platen 52 underneath the station 46, through the conductive metalbelt. The wrapped object then enters the tunnel where the hot air from the blower 60 shrinks the wrapper round the object, after which the wrapped object leaves the tunnel, and is discharged at station 50. The belt may be made of woven wire in which the longitudinal strand 62 (Figs. 16, 17, not shown) is crimped to increase the longitudinal elasticity of the belt. The belt is supported on a motor-driven roller 36 and a free-running roller 38 spring-biased against the belt to maintain belt tension. The belt tension is adjustable by a screw 99 (Figs. 12, 13, 15, not shown). The edges of the belt are also guided in guide rollers 72, 74 (Fig. 3, 10, 11 not shown). The machine is portable and is operable by an unskilled worker.
