Abstract

1,203,068. Caps for containers. LOY BROS. PTY. Ltd. 23 Oct., 1967, No. 48071/67. Heading B8T. A screw cap 11 for a bottle 12 has a circular groove 19 which has downwardly divergent side walls and is engaged by a gasket 23 interfitting with the groove and the bottle rim, the lower edge 35 of the cap having a slightly smaller diameter than the minor diameter of the screw thread 29. The gasket may be preformed. A flange 22 of the cap is flexible, thus forming an inner seal. Lugs 17 are provided for turning the cap. The threads on the cap and bottle may be multi-start or continuous. The cap may be moulded from a resilient plastics, e.g. a polycarbonate, and is transparent so that in a machine for fitting the gasket 23 to the stopper a light beam may pass through the cap to operate a safety device. When a die for fitting the gasket to the cap fails to receive a gasket the light beam is reflected by the die surface back through the cap to be detected by one or more photoelectric cells and cause a signal to prevent the die from moving.
