Abstract

1,202,771. Emptying bags. SIMON HANDLING ENGS. Ltd. 5 Dec., 1968 [3 Jan., 1968], No. 434/68. Heading B8C. A device for slitting and emptying bags comprises a slitter 13 and a carriage 20 movable towards and away from the slitter, the carriage supporting at least one horizontal lance 14 on which a bag 10 is impaled prior to being slit, and is characterized by the lance or lances being supported from the carriage by resilient elements (rubber bearings) and there being provided vibration producing means (24, Fig. 4, not shown), imparting vibration to the lance or lances. The bag 10 is advanced on a cradle 11 of a conveyer 12 to be met and pierced by the adjustable lances 14 moving towards it on the carriage 20. The latter then reverses its direction of movement and moves with the pierced bag towards the saw 13. After severing, the bag is carried off the conveyer on the lances, the severed parts pivoting to discharge the contents into a hopper below. The. moving, carriage 20 then operates a contact to energize the vibrators (24) which may be electrically, mechanically, pneumatically or hydraulically energized. The carriage drive may be switched off while the vibration proceeds. Subsequently, further rightward movement of, the carriage causes sleeves 29 on the lances to sweep off the emptied bag portions which fall in a further receptacle.
