Abstract

1,201,882. Boring earth &c. LEE C. MOORE CORP. 19 Feb., 1969 [1 July, 1968], No. 8902/ 69. Heading E1F. Well boring apparatus comprises a platform 1, a tower 16 mounted on the platform and at its upper end supporting a pipe rack, a drill mast 3 mounted on the platform and inclined away from the tower, and a support 4 holding an inclined rotary table 5. The mast and table pivot together about a bearing 42 on the platform, the axis of the table drive shaft being coincident with that of the bearing. The tower is maintained vertically by braces 18, and the mast is maintained in inclined positions by a walkway 30 which forms an adjustable connection to the tower. A travelling block 10 is supported on a dolly 11 movable along tracks 12 on the mast. The lower end of a drill pipe is guided into the setback at the foot of the tower by a line 23, and the upper end of the pipe is hauled by a line 27 into the tower for racking after its removal from the elevator 26. The apparatus is suitable for offshore drilling.
