Abstract

1,201,360. Winding rovings. FIBREGLASS Ltd. 9 Dec., 1968 [8 Dec., 1967], No. 55893/67. Heading D1J. Rovings such as glass fibre rovings S are wound into a package 20 by continuously collecting together a pluraity of glass fibre strands into a least two separated groups S1, S2 which pass through collector rings 13 and 14; a tensioning device 15 to form each gp. into a separate roving; collector rings 16 and 17; over an arcuate groove 18 in a traveller 19, where they are collected into a single body, and finally onto the package 20. The core of the package 20 is driven to rotate about its axis and the traveller 19 reciprocates parallel to this axis. The strands in each roving are secured together, e.g. with adhesive tape; over a short length of the roving where the rovings are separate. The rovings are then cut on the side of the secured length remote from the windings so that more than one roving can be withdrawn simultaneously from the same package.
